New Cost Effective Concentrated Winding Topolology for Induction Machines

Recently, the industry is more and more interested in fractional slot concentrated windings (FSCW), because of many advantages such as high power density and low manufacturing costs. Novel FSCWs often consist of several winding systems. This structure allows the creation of good MMF distributions with low space harmonic contents and reduces undesirable side effects, such as localized core saturation, eddy current loss in the magnets, noise and vibration. Good examples for this are 18teeth/10-poles and 30-teeth/14-poles combined wye-delta windings. In this paper, a new three phase single tooth concentrated winding with a simple wye connection for induction machines is presented. The combination of this winding with a squirrel-cage rotor is especially suitable for low cost applications.
